Huxley, as Grant suggested I would recommend that after tapping the Newton
on your hand firmly while having pressed the release latch a few times that
you should jump to taking the case apart. I purchased a lot of used Newtons
way back as a lot (2x) from eBay that I had to deal with some that had
issues with rechargeable packs not being able to be released from the
MP2000/2000u/21000.
The tolerances are somewhat tight and if they are not released easily like
Grant described either gunk build up or leakage from the cells may cause
difficulty releasing them.
Careful disassembly and at times disassembling the back battery frame on
the lower bout is needed to remove the pack and clean out the cavity
properly. If you were in the NYC area I'd lend you a hand as this becomes
second nature after the 65-80+ MP2000's I got for salvageable parts and
complete newonts I was able to save.
