[NTLK] Newton Connection 2.0 Crashing Under Classic Mac OS 9.2.1 on PowerMac G4

Hello Newton Friends,

I’m working on connecting my Newton devices to a Power Macintosh G4 Quicksilver 733Mhz (2001) with Classic Mac OS 9.2.1 installed. (This Mac can also dual-boot to Mac OS X 10.4.11 Tiger).  I have installed a copy of Newton Connection 2.0 from the floppy disk images downloaded from UNNA.org.  After rebooting, when launching Newton Connection 2.0, I constantly get an unexpectedly quit message with an error of type 15.

The extension appears to load fine.  I have rebuilt the desktop (holding down Option + Apple).  Just for fun, I zapped the PRAM.  I have also increased the memory allocation of Newton Connection to 4096kb from 2500kb preferred.  Newton Backup Utilities 1.0 launches without issue.  Other apps, like New Contacts, Palm Desktop, and Microsoft Word, are running normally.

Is there something I’m missing?  I didn’t see anything in the Newton Connection read me files that suggested that there is an incompatibility or workaround required.  It has been a long time since I had to do any serious troubleshooting on Classic Mac OS 9.2.1.  Is there a New Connection Kit patch or app that I’m missing?  I have an .iso for Classic Mac OS 9.2.2, but I haven’t installed it.

Cheers,

Alan Grassia
