Hello, I hope all is well.
I recently purchased an eMate 300 for $20, and stupidly plugged in a 9V
wall charger into the eMate. It worked, but as soon as I hit the
reset button, I heard a loud “POP” and saw a brief flash. Upon
disassembly, I discovered that a capacitor (C101) was destroyed and burnt.
There is a large IC next to C101, and the top of it is loose, looks like a
small coil inside. Is that normal, or will that also require a
replacement? I’m concerned if I fried my eMate.
Will replacement of the damaged capacitor be sufficient? I tested all the
remaining large capacitors and nearby small ones for continuity, and
they're all OL. Nothing else appears to be damaged, although there is some
black residue from the blown capacitor.
The capacitor (tantalum) I need has an A at the top in an orange band, with
100u below, then "10" and "9522" below. I assume 9522 is a date code, as
the other large capacitors have the same markings, but with "9631" on it.
I successfully removed the blown capacitor (C101, mostly blackened, was
originally orange like the others). Would a 100u tantalum capacitor with a
10V rating be suitable for replacement?
I bought a cheap Chinese power adapter, but now I’m concerned if it’ll
work. “H0208” is the name. Should I stick with that, or cancel the order
and get an Apple H0165 adapter instead?
Lastly, how should I go about repairing the backlight? The red wire was
loose upon disassembly.
Thank you for your help, and apologies in advance for the lengthy post!
