Tip: This bug was introduced during my quest for writing a German version of
the eMate's operating system, and it was caused because I did something I
always tell people not to do: Make an assumption. In this case the
assumption was that my keyboard's 'c' key, which has always been working
reliably, still works reliably...

No, I'm not talking about a missing 'c' character.
