If you Newton 2100 works correctly with an AC adapter then it is possible that the problem is located at the metal connectors (those at the bottom of the battery module slot).
There are two possibilities:
- the first, is that these contacts must be oxidized. This is because it is possible that at some point a set of batteries or rechargeable batteries may have leaked a little bit, and with time the metal will mostly turn greenish in color. A good part of my MP2k had this problem. To solve this problem you have to disassemble the Newton, just remove the back, unscrew part of the battery compartment (which separates in two) and clean the connectors, being careful not to bend or break them. 
Why does it do it more with the rechargeable battery module than with the battery module? Just look at these two modules to realize that one has two metal contacts (the non-rechargeable one has one contact in the case and the second contact is simply the end of one of the batteries) and the other (the rechargeable one) has four contacts, thus multiplying the risk of bad contact.
Sometimes you can even see this oxidation just by looking in the battery module slot, either in direct sunlight or with the help of a small lamp (you can also try with the led of your smartphone).
- the second one, is that one or two of the metal tabs don't come in contact with the battery module connectors when you insert it in the Newton, this has already happened in one of my MP2k. Here you also have to disassembling as for the above problem. And try to straighten the metal leg(s). But sometimes the problem is not on one of the metal legs, but the one at the bottom is dislodged from its place, because as you can see, this connector has a particular shape that allows it to spring back, but only if it is properly in place, it allows the ejection of the battery. And sometimes (in cases of strong corrosion) the problem is in the plastic and the small part in which the metal connector must be wedged for the "spring" to work which has melted or is broken. But in this case you would have the problem that the battery module doesn't want to stay in place.

Si ton Newton 2100 fonctionne correctement avec un adaptateur secteur alors il est possible que le problème soit localisé au niveau des connecteurs en métal (ceux qui se trouve au fond de l'emplacement pour le module batteries).
Deux possibilités :
- la première c'est que ces contacts doivent être oxydés. Car il se peut qu'à un moment ou un autre, un jeu de piles ou de batteries rechargeables ait coulé un tout petit peu, et avec le temps le métal devient la plupart du temps de couleur verdâtre (on dit vers de gris dans ce cas là). Une bonne partie des mes MP2k ont eu ce problème. Pour résoudre ce problème il faut démonter le Newton, il faut juste enlever le dos puis dévisser un partie du compartiment batterie (qui se sépare en deux) et nettoyer les connecteurs en faisant attention à ne pas les tordre ou les casser. 
Pourquoi cela le fait plus avec le module batterie rechargeable qu'avec le module à piles ? Il suffit de regarder ces deux modules pour ce rendre compte que l'un à deux contacts métallique (le non rechargeable, à un contact dans le boitier et le deuxième contact est tout simplement l'extrémité d'une des piles) et l'autre (le rechargeable)  à quatre contacts, multipliant donc le risque de mauvais contact.
Parfois on peut même voir cette oxydation juste en regardant dans l'emplacement du module batteries, soit en plein soleil soit en t'aidant d'une petite lampe (tu peux aussi essayer avec le led de ton smartphone).
- la deuxième, c'est qu'une ou deux des pattes métalliques n'entre plus en contact avec les connecteurs du modules de batteries quand tu l’insert dans le Newton, cela est déjà arrivé dans l'un de mes MP2k. Là il faut aussi intervenir en démontant comme pour le problème ci-dessus. Et essayer de redresser la ou les pattes métalliques. Mais dès fois le problème se trouve non pas sur l'une des pattes métalliques mais que celle du fond c'est délogée de son emplacement, car comme tu pourras le voir ce connecteur à une forme particulière qui lui permet de faire ressort, mais seulement s'il est bien en place, cela permet justement l'éjection de la batterie. Et parfois (dans les cas de forte corrosion) le problème est au niveau du plastique et de la petite partie dans lequel le connecteur en métal doit être coincé pour que le "ressort » fonctionne qui à fondue ou est cassée. Mais dans ce cas là tu aurais le problème que le module batterie ne veuille pas rester en place.
