[NTLK] Connection Question (it's raining adapters, hallelujah!)

Thank you, Christoph. I think I may have found a suitable solution. I will contact you separately for your advice if that’s OK.

@Forrest your experience has been pretty close to my own. First I tried a regular old (and it was “brand new” but clear baby blue plastic in the style of 20 years ago) that was a RS-232 > USB adapter. Nada. Then I got the Keyspan. Nada.

Looks like I’ve got one more trick up my sleeve to try next.

Glad my machine didn’t go into a kernel panic! That would have freaked me out.

Thanks for your responses to my connection/adapter questions, guys.

Eric

I do think a lot of the 20+ year old Newton programs that could be unlocked would be OK to be put somewhere online these days, at least where the original owners had been contacted and/or with a disclaimer that any of them would never be used for profit and listed purely for archival purposes for this small but vibrant community.

> The last time I tried to use a Keyspan serial adapter?several years ago, with MacOS 10.11 El Capitan?my MBP went into a Kernel Panic. If you?ve ever experienced one, the first time, ?panic? is a good word, because I was afraid I had somehow damaged my machine, perhaps irreparably. After I realized it was not that serious, I tried again?several times?with the same result, no matter which of the 2 ports I tried (it?s a USA 28X-B). However, recently, with Catalina, it simply failed to work or do anything.
>
> When Apple killed the Sync capability about 10 years ago, that was the end of anything like NCX?s functional synchronizing with the Newton. After many hours and much research on the Internet I too determined that Claris? ancient Organizer program was one of if not the best choice. Sadly, you need an older Mac to utilize it. As mentioned before, my SE/30 works splendidly with my MP2100, thanks to Organizer.
