A late fix: 

I was made aware that the Einstein Network Card driver did not work on U.S. ROM devices for a while. After some research, I found the issue:

Einstein installs the Y2K10 fix for U.S. devices, which is cool, but we did not realistically that the patch also contains other updates that fix bugs in NOS 2.1, among them a bug that keeps the Newton from recognizing - well - Network Cards.

If you use the German ROM or an eMate ROM *and* have the Y2K10 patch installed, you are fine and can disregard the rest of this mail.


Check **Extras > i > Memory Info**. On a U.S. ROM< this should show "ROM Version 2.1 (717260)-1". If it does, you are fine and can disregard the rest of this mail.


If you use Einstein with a U.S. ROM, and your NIE Network does not work (Error -48807), you can fix this by installing the official Apple patch for **Help > Install Essentials..." or from this source:

MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR NEWTON TO NCX FIRST. This patch will erase the contents of your Flash file. Just copying the Flash memory file does not work, because that file contains the patch.

I updated the User Guide and the "Install Essentials..." menu.
