Hi Matthias,
could it be the Crystal oscillator? Or maybe the very few electrolytic capacitors still presents on the board.

Hi Newton fans,
it may not come as a surprise that my Newtons go through some extra abuse when developing and testing hardware, but this has bugged me for a while.
Both of my MP2100 take a long time to switch on. In the beginning, there was a short delay, seconds, then tens of seconds, and eventually it was hit or miss, if the Newton would turn on at all.
Now neither of them is turning on. The power supply works, but even with the reset trick, they are both just dead.
By the description, this is typically caused by rotting capacitors, but Apple learned from the MP100, and the MP2100 has only solid state caps that should not rot. And why do both of my MP2100 show the same symptoms at the same time.
Has anyone seen this before? Has anyone doen a recap on a MP2100? Any other suggestions? Sigh!
