Hi there Grant (and anyone else this might help…),
After mucking around with the different versions of NCX (running on SL; intel versions and PPC via Rosetta), I noticed (via Get Info) for the device .nbku restore/backup file that the creation date was the original date when created (2014) but seemed to have been modified (2025…somehow) when trying to get the restore function to work via NCX.
So I trawled through my files again and found a .nbku device file created and modified with the same date (2014), copied this (plus the accompanying 2 storage card files (same date) to the desktop.
Okay…thinking about the way I went about it all and why the MP restore failed, I recall doing a hard reset first, erasing all info on the MP and then setting up with my name, address etc.
Maybe this time: hard reset but skip through adding any details (except country, as the default was USA)…so no name, address, phone, signature…then hooked up MP to NCX 1.2, as this was the earliest version I had to hand (thanks to Grant) which would allow manual selecting of the restore file (2.0.4 doesn’t have this function) and seemed to probably be the version I must have used back then to create the backup…and voila! The restore started! Amazing (well, to me anyway!)…obviously NCX doesn’t like the Newt to already have owner details, perhaps even with the same name this created a conflict? Having the Newt as a blank slate (unknown owner) the device restore then can “populate” the Newt (this is my attempt at an explanation!)…
Thanks Grant for the links to v.1 and 1.2 of NCX!
Rob
