Hi Jim,
yes, there has been a lot going on, mostly in seceret tunnels under the Düsseldorf river bridge. But evry so often, there is a glipse into those caverns:

EPDiy is one possibe approch at running an EPaper display:

All kinds of 6" ePaper displays are a surprisingly good fir for teh MP2x00, but there are a few LCD and OLED displays that could work aswell.
For example, the 6-Zoll-ED060XD4(LF)C1-00 eink has frontlight and touch built in. The digital interface is relatively easy, but the display needs four or five esoteric voltages whereas an LCD needs only 5V.
Or to put it short, yes, all that is very feasible.
