As far as I remember I've got just http://www.unna.org/unna/apple/software/SystemPatches/english/110/[1] applied. This was the last official update.
Pages like http://newtonpoetry.com/2009/05/28/newton-2010-bug-fixed-users-rejoice/[2] back up my memory that there is no need to apply a "y10k" patch.

Just checking the obvious things - you've replaced the coin cell backup battery, and are pressing "set" in the Preferences pane ? The 4 AA batteries are charged, or it's on mains power (and says it's on mains power) ?

I'm also unclear if you mean it fails to "keep" when going to sleep (slide button on the side briefly), rebooting (little button on back), or something else ... ?
