I was using an ethernet bridge adapter that I configured using a laptop to
connect to WPA2, works great.
I use an adapter like this one linked below, which can be powered from a
power bank. No additional programming needed once the adapter is
programmed to connect to the WPA2 network on a laptop before connecting to
the newton via a PCMCIA card.

I also previously used a Beaglebone SBC with linux and VNC with some
hackery to set the resolution to a newton friendly resolution.
Installed two wifi interfaces (One in WPA and one in WPA2) to bridge to the
network. This allowed modern browsers and email on the newton when needed
via VNC to the SBC. I lost the site files that had the information on how
to do it, but I am getting back to working on some newton projects so it
may live again.
Best Regards,
Elias
