Some PCMCIA cards have a small jumper that makes them read-only. This is rarely the case on Apple cards, but on others it is. For example the (compatible) cards from M-Systems or SMART.

But coming back to your audio recordings, wouldn't it be easier to copy your Audio Notes directly to another card (using infrared transfer and another Newton, or using SimpleArchive (Paul's utility)) rather than converting them to an audio file and then back to a Newton file, I think the Newton compression is more suited to the Newton's sound capabilities, no?
