Dear Sylvain & Frank,
I’m very happy to inform you that the module is successfully repaired! To sum it up: I used Sylvain's module that arrived a couple of days ago, used his (heating) method, dragged a thin nylon thread behind the touchscreen layer to remove it from the dead LCD module, placed the old touch screen on the new LCD module, done. Frank recommended proceeding in a dust-free environment.
Lessons learned: detaching the touchscreen (digitizer) layer was too risky. Frank mentioned later that the LCD parts could have been removed easily from the metal frame, by bending a few tabs. He was absolutely right, but then again it was hard to say which piece was damaged; so detaching the topmost layer (touchscreen) revealed that the LCD was the dead piece. Probably folks more familiar with Newton parts can spot the faulty pieces easier. Nonetheless, putting the touchscreen layer on the brand new module was challenging. Luckily it was still sticky. Needed precision work.
I’d like to thank you for all your help! This would have not been possible without your efforts. Sylvain thank you for the free stickers too! :-)
Sincerely,
Shaahin

To do this you use either a hair dryer, or small "cushions" that you heat in the microwave and put on the contour. The glass part (on which the tactile surface is placed) is quite fragile, especially when handled outside the Newton. Moreover, there is not a single person on the market who has this set (touchscreen with glass) available as a new spare part. There is an American seller who sells LCD screens for MP2x00 on eBay. And I myself have some new ones (LCD screens) in stock, I have some left, but I'm in Europe, so it's not interesting for those living in the States because of the shipping costs.
