[NTLK] Problem with connecting my eMate to my Mac

IIRC, the cards that will work in eMate are 5v write cards, while the original cards are 5v read and 12v write. Newer technology, relatively speaking.

Ah yes it's normal, the eMate is capricious with memory cards! (In real, eMate it is not capricious, but uses the cards differently than the other Newton.)
There are very few cards that work in write/read on the eMate, in any case all the ones that work on the other Newton, don't necessarily work on the eMate as you just realized. The red and black Apple memory cards of 1, 2 and 4Mb don't work in write mode on eMate.
Below is a picture of some cards I have in my possession that work read/write on eMate.
